5 Pinterest Basics To Get Right

Pinterest can be such a brilliant platform for attracting customers to your business but first you need to get the basics right. Here are my tips for things you should check when starting out 

1. Showcase your brand

You will need to have a range of boards not just one with your products on. They should show what your brand is about, what your sell, what your values are and other topics that you think your ideal customer would want be interested in.

2. Try to Build boards around popular subjects

You can find out what is trending on Pinterest or popular board categories in your analytics but I would recommend including, if you can, any 'how to' pins, DIY, craft, quotes or recipes as these always go down well with most audiences.

3. Pinning with 20: 80 ratio

When I start working with people on their Pinterest accounts the most common misconception is people thinking they only pin from their own websites. Pinterest is a community and the give and take ethic is 20% of your pins being your work an 80% repins from other people. It's best if you can mix your pins rather than pinning all in one batch which brings me nicely onto my next point.

4. Pin regularly

You get out of Pinterest what you put in. If you can pin daily you stand the best chance of swift and effective growth. I would highly recommend signing up to Tailwind. It's a free app (for your first 100 pins) and a brilliant way to get started with an effective pinning strategy. You just load up some pins and Tailwind will schedule them for you at optimum times. It also has a really useful breakdown of statistics from your pins which when used alongside Pinterest's own analytics will give you a clear picture of what is working. 

5. Check your links work

As the main reason you're pinning is to raise brand awareness and traffic to your website make sure the links are all working. A pin with a broken link is a complete waste of an opportunity so check them all!
